Minnesota's the land of a gazillion salt & pepper shakers right now

If you're looking to shake up your weekend...

We're not sure about movers, but there are a lot of shakers in the Twin Cities this weekend.

In fact, this may be the only weekend in history when the X Games coincide with the convention of the Novelty Salt & Pepper Shakers Club.

Yes, there's a club for people who collect salt and pepper shakers. And they're having their convention at a hotel in Bloomington.

Now, keep in mind these are just the novelty shakers. As their "Introduction to Types of Shakers" article explains, these are only the ones made to look like people or animals or – really anything besides a salt or pepper shaker.

If you want more art and less kitsch in your shakers, then the Antique Glass Salt & Sugar Shakers Club (AGSSSC) might be for you.

They were united in a single Salt Shakers Collectors Club when they started in 1983, the novelty club notes on their history page, but the serious ones and the fun ones split into separate clubs in '87.

So if you want to add a little flavor to your day, head down to the Crown Plaza Suites near the airport to meet some people who like to shake things up.
