MN city that's 'Home of Bigfoot' is celebrating the hairy beast this weekend

Bigfoot is a big deal in Remer.

Did you know Bigfoot is from Minnesota?

Remer, a city of 370 people located in the Chippewa National Forest, prides itself in being Bigfoot’s official home. And this weekend, it's having a whole festival to celebrate.

Bigfoot Days, as the celebration is called, runs Friday and Saturday. There are all sorts of events in honor of the hairy beast. Like a Bigfoot-themed 5K, Geocaching, Bingo, and a BBQ. There are even Bigfoot calling competitions, if you dare.

You might not have known this, but there's a Minnesota Bigfoot Research Team dedicated to proving the rumored man-like creature is real. They'll be talking and telling stories Saturday afternoon.

Check out the whole schedule of events here.

Bigfoot sightings

There have been Bigfoot sightings in the area since the late 1800s, the city says. Even the founder of Remer himself is said to have discovered tracks.

Bigfoot was most recently spotted in the Remer area in 2009. Hunters claimed to have captured the forest-living creature on a trail camera. The picture (below) made headlines across the globe.

Remer isn’t the only place that’s calling itself Bigfoot’s home, though. Willow Creek, California, has dubbed itself “The Bigfoot capital of the world” since the late 1950s and is home to the Bigfoot exhibit.

Maybe Bigfoot moves around? On Facebook, Remer acknowledges the big guy has been seen elsewhere.

"We DO believe, however, that the TRUE Home of Bigfoot is Remer, MN," the city posted last year.
