MN hip-hop artist Lizzo lands major label deal with Atlantic Records

Publish date:

Lizzo's on a major label.

The Minneapolis-based hip-hop artist signed with Nice Life Recording Company (recently launched under Atlantic Records), according to a news release.

She makes her label debut with the track "Good as Hell," which you can listen to here:

It's also streaming on Spotify, and you can buy it on iTunes. The track will be featured in "Barbershop: The Next Cut," too.

Her first album, 2013's "Lizzobangers," was released by Minneapolis-based label Totally Gross National Product. Last year's "Big GRRRL Small World" was put out independently through Lizzo's own label BGSW, Pitchfork says.

Lizzo was actually born in Detroit and raised in Houston, Pitchfork says – but later moved to Minnesota and made Minneapolis her adopted home base, Billboard writes.

“I always say that there’s this magnet for weird people,” she told the site about Minneapolis.

She's got a few tour dates lined up right now, and will swing back to Minnesota with a performance at Soundset Music Festival on May 29 in St. Paul at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

She made her national television debut in fall of 2014, appearing on "Late Show with David Letterman," and just a few months ago performed on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

And if you use the Imoji app, there is a "Good as Hell"-themed set of emojis available.
