MN-made gift idea: Cedar & Stone canvas and leather goods

Luke Borkenhagen creates durable bags and backpacks for both city life and outdoor adventures.

Yearly trips to the Boundary Waters and a lifetime passion for the outdoors inspired Luke Borkenhagen to create quality bags and goods under the Cedar & Stone name in 2012. He crafts each item one at a time, and manually creates every aspect besides the machine-sewn seams.

“It is my mission to handcraft unique, durable goods that last a lifetime, and I stand behind the principles of sustainability and durability of my gear with a lifetime guarantee,” he says. “The ruggedness and simplicity of the products I make function well whether in the rugged outdoors or in the urban jungle.”

For the holidays, Borkenhagen suggests his all-leather items as gifts, which includes leather totes, zipper purses, and clutch bags with cross-body straps. As less expensive options, he also recommends canvas and leather clutch purses. (Bags and accessories range from $45-$288.)

Other gift ideas Borkenhagen recommends come from local vendors like himself. His top picks include clothing from Borealis Wool Co., jewelry from Betty Jager and Annika Kaplan, and handmade fishing lures, tackle boxes and woodworkings made by American Craftsmen in Minneapolis.
