At Elixery, Minneapolis-based chemist Karoline Wells creates vegan and cruelty-free lipsticks, perfumes, and essential oils out of a vintage laboratory in Uptown Minneapolis.

After witnessing animal cruelty firsthand in her previous career as an industry scientist, Wells made it a point to not test Elixery products on animals. Elixery has also collaborated on a collection of lip products with both local rapper-singer Dessa and local fashion designer Samantha Rei.

The Elixery crew suggests their shade Devious for wearing or gifting during the holiday season. At first glance, the color appears dark on the stick, but the color doesn’t show up nearly as dark when applied. The shade was actually designed to enhance the natural melanin undertone of the lip to create a polished, yet effortless look. (Lipstick shades are $22; www.elixery.com)

If you are looking to gift other body care products like organic bath bombs and soaps, the Elixery staff says Bodylish is another Minneapolis shop worth checking out.

You can shop Elixery's full collection of lip and body products here, and you can follow the local brand on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to hear about new releases as they happen.
