MN-made gift idea: Koonyai Studio jewelry

Beau Sinchai creates modern earrings and necklaces out of concrete and mixed metals.

This story is part of GoMN's 2017-18 Winter Guide.

Beau Sinchai began selling her handcrafted concrete, architectural and geometric jewelry in 2014. The name Koonyai ties back to her roots, as it translates to beloved grandmother in Thai.

Sinchai grew up in Thailand with her grandmother before coming to the Midwest to study art at Cranbrook Academy of Art, then she eventually set up her studio in Minneapolis.

During the gift-giving season, she recommends her top-selling, minimalist 'staple' earrings that come in a choice of sterling silver, gold-filled or rose-gold-filled metal. Another one of Sinchai’s favorites: her geometric earrings. “These are hand-shaped wire and they are a literal architecture piece you can wear.” (Earrings range from $19-$38 per pair; etsy.com/shop/KoonyaiStudio)

Besides, her own shop, Sinchai also suggests WAAM Industries. The artists at WAAM create handmade wooden storage items and modern, thoughtful takes on classic items like dog bowls and lunch bags.

You can shop the full Koonyai collection here, and you can follow Sinchai's studio on Instagram and Facebook for styling hints.
