FOX is revealing more details about Prince's post-Super Bowl appearance on the network's hit sitcom "New Girl," the Star Tribune reports.
The plot of the episode, due to air Feb. 2, finds Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Cece (Hannah Simone) getting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend a mansion party thrown by the Minnesota music icon -- and the rest of the gang crashes the party as a result.
The network says the show will feature several guest cameo appearances and an unforgettable ending, the Star Tribune says.
"New Girl" executive producer Brett Baer told E! Online that Prince "knows everything about the show" and his interest in appearing on it dates back to last year.
"He contacted Zooey and Hannah directly and asked to do the show," Baer said. "We couldn't work it out last year. But when the Super Bowl thing was floated, it was perfect timing."
Apart from his music, the episode will show off some of Prince's acting skills, "New Girl" executive producer Dave Finkel told E! Online.
"He said, ‘I want to be involved in the show in a real way and I want to help Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess with their relationship,'" Finkel told the website.
"He's right in the middle of trying to help (them) work through some stuff and it's amazing," Baer added. "His thing was all about getting to Jess and trying to bring out this inner part of her that hadn't been brought to the forefront."
Finkel also told E! Online that Prince is "genuinely funny" and has "crazy comic instincts."
"He's got a very quiet, wry sense of humor but he kills," Finkel said. "There's a moment in the episode where he's sitting in between Zooey and Jake on a bench. And it's a silent beef and he's just looking between them trying to figure them out. And it's hilarious."
"Prince actually reached out to the show," an anonymous source told Dr. Funkenberry. "He is a big fan and wanted to do it. We were blown away and agreed immediately."
The blog also posted a tweet from Simone that said a big announcement was coming – a message not coincidentally retweeted by Prince's Twitter account @3rdEyeGirl.
The cameo should be a win-win for both Prince and "New Girl," since the show is following what is traditionally the most-watched TV event of the year.
The show airs in the Twin Cities area on FOX 9.
Prince showed off more of his affinity for Deschanel Monday when @3rdEye Girl retweeted the actress' tweet about being on the cover of the new issue of Elle magazine.
