A unique new bell will soon be added to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
The Walker Art Center announced Thursday that in commemoration of the Sculpture Garden's 25th anniversary, the sculpture "For Whom" (2012) will be installed in late June.
Sculpted by Belgian artist Kris Martin, "For Whom" is a towering construction that features a church bell swinging without emitting a sound, the Walker says. The title of the sculpture is in reference to the poem by John Donne and novel by Ernest Hemingway.
Darsie Alexander, chief curator at the Walker, calls "For Whom" a "striking addition to one of the most renowned urban parks in America."
The sculpture will be dedicated to Martin Friedman, who was the Walker's director from 1961-1990 and spearheaded the creation of the Sculpture Garden.
