MSP airport adding areas for your pets to go potty

Dogs have it pretty good these days.

It's just as important for your pet to empty its bladder as it is for you before going on a long trip, and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is about to make that a lot easier.

Currently, Terminal 1 has a pet relief area outside Door 1 on the Baggage Claim Level, and another inside past security checkpoints near the entrance to Concourse E in the Airport Mall.

But that's it, so if you're in one of the six other concourses you might have a lengthy walk just to let your dog relieve itself.

The good news is that Terminal 1 is adding another pet relief location in Concourse F as part of the airport's ongoing $1.6 billion upgrades and it'll be completed sometime late this year or early in 2019, the Star Tribune reports.

Airport officials tell GoMN that new one will feature artificial turf, a large space where dogs can move around, and a flush and wash system that cleans and sanitizes the facility for the next customer.

Terminal 2 has an outdoor relief area near baggage claim and an indoor location near Gate H11.

According to, airports that serve 10,000+ passengers annually are required by federal regulations to have at least one indoor pet relief location for travelers who are accompanied by service dogs.

Ever airline's pet policies differ, so it's best to check to see what your airline allows.
