The explosion of New Bohemia Wurst and BierHaus restaurants in the Twin Cities will soon include a downtown Minneapolis location near the home of the Vikings.

The location in one of the Wells Fargo towers will be the eighth metro area spot for the chain that started in 2012 and describes itself as a modern craft bier hall.

New Bohemia's announcement says they're hoping for a late summer opening in the east tower. The Wells Fargo buildings are just a couple blocks from U.S. Bank Stadium.

The new restaurant will be the first for New Bohemia since it opened a St. Paul location near the Xcel Energy Center, where the Minnesota Wild play. COO Brian Ingram says the response in St. Paul has been positive and they're hoping for a football version of that in downtown Minneapolis.

"While our Saint Paul location’s décor and entertainment focuses on hockey, our new downtown location will lean towards football with a variety of décor and games that Vikings (fans) will love to check out along with our craft sausages, burgers and beer," he says.

Last week New Bohemia also announced plans to open a big food hall down the street from its St. Paul restaurant. Seventh Street Truckyard is inspired by "a great American road trip" of the 1970s, with classic vehicles retrofitted as food trucks.

Also selling sausages in supermarkets

New Bohemia is also expanding in another direction: into retail stores.

The company says it's working with U.S. Foods to sell its sausages and burgers in Kowalskis and Lunds & Byerly's supermarkets. New Bohemia says the meat should be on store shelves by Fourth of July weekend.

In a Facebook post, Ingram says they'll be in 28 Twin Cities supermarkets and they hope to be selling them nationwide by early next year.

New Bohemia says it makes 24 different kinds of sausages, including some that are made with local Surly beer.
