For the first time, you can hear the original studio version of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U."

The Prince estate released the 1984 recording on Thursday, two days before the 2nd anniversary of his death.

Recorded at the Flying Cloud Warehouse in Eden Prairie 34 years ago, the song went on to become world-renowned when it was covered by Sinead O'Connor six years later.

Prince didn't release the song himself, initially giving it to his side project, The Family, though the BBC reports he did release a live version of the ballad on his 1993 Hits album.

He also played the song at his last ever live appearance, on April 14, 2016.
