Parts of I-35W south of downtown Minneapolis will close overnight for construction work starting Tuesday and lasting till the end of the week.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is closing parts of the interstate as part of its ongoing reconstruction of the Franklin Avenue bridge.
It'll mean a little disruption for anyone having a night out downtown this week, as well as those on early or overnight work shifts.
MnDOT is in the middle of a massive improvement project around the I-35W/I-94 intersection, which will continue for several years.
Here's a summary of the closures:
10 p.m. Tues. – 5 a.m. Weds
Northbound closes between 26th Street and I-94. Access to downtown remains open. Detour to eastbound I-94 via Hwys. 62 and 100, then I-394.
10 p.m. Weds. – 5 a.m. Thurs.
Southbound closes from I-94 to 26th Street, access from downtown still open. Detour for WB I-94 users via I-394, Hwys. 100 and 62.
10 p.m. Thurs. to 5 a.m. Fri.
Northbound access from I-35W to downtown Minneapolis will close, as will the ramp from I-35W to westbound I-94. Posted detour sends drivers the 62, 100, I-394, I-94 route, but really they should get off north I-35W at 36th or 31st streets and take Park or Chicago all the way in.
10 p.m. Fri. to 5 a.m. Sat.
Access from 12th Street and 4th Avenue in downtown Minneapolis to southbound I-35W will close, as will the ramp from eastbound I-94 to southbound I-35W.
