Super-fan Bre Brunlow drives from Minnesota to Michigan twice a year to get her Tim Hortons donut fix.
"I even emailed them, like, six times telling them they need one in the Twin Cities," Brumlow admitted.
But that's all changed – the franchise opened up a location near her home in the Mall of America, and fellow fans of the coffee-and-donut franchise lined up early Thursday morning for the grand opening.
As part of the grand opening, Hortons gave the first 50 customers a $25 gift card along with a 10-pack of Hortons mini donuts called "Timbits." More than 50 people showed up to stand in line, some even before the mall officially opened at 10 a.m.
The new location at the mall is on the east side of level two. Here's a short Snapchat video showing what it looked like.
Peter Sherno of Bloomington was one of those people, waiting 90 minutes to order coffee and a breakfast sandwich.
"Tim Hortons is super iconic and I was really excited," Sherno said.
The store did serve customers last week but the official opening was Thursday at 11 a.m. Allie Schenian from the Hortons marketing team said they did a soft opening last week to make sure everything went smoothly today.
There are around 3,600 locations in Canada and about 800 in the US currently. Four of the U.S. locations are in Minnesota: two in Tower, one in Mahnomen at the Shooting Star Casino, and now the Mall of America. A fifth one will be popping up in Dinkytown later this month, the Star Tribune reported.
