People are camping out 24 hours before opening of new Chick-fil-A

Couldn't have picked a nicer day for it...

A new Chick-fil-A restaurant opens in Chanhassen on Thursday, and of course that means a couple dozen people have started lining up outside 24 hours early.

That's because every new Chick-fil-A that opens now comes with a contest where the first 100 people through the door will win free Chick-fil-A meals once a week for a year.

Pictures sent to GoMN by the fast-food chain show eager punters lined up outside the door, some bringing tents with them as they settle down for their day-long vigil.

They couldn't have had a worst day to wait, with the remnants of last night's thunderstorms seeing heavy rain pummel the Twin Cities Wednesday morning.

And this is expected to continue throughout the day, with the National Weather Service saying potentially severe thunderstorms could hit the metro area later on.

It's Chick-fil-A's first Chanhassen restaurant and its 14th in Minnesota, most of which are found in the Twin Cities.

It's been opened by local franchise owner Andrew Armstrong at 445 W. 79th Street, with the first 100 people through the door qualifying for the prize, provided they have a Twin Cities zip code (a full list of eligible zip codes can be found here.)

The offer isn’t an “all-you-can-eat” kind of deal, or even an “eat-what-you-want” deal. Winners will be given a digital offer card that entitles them to 52 meals consisting of a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, waffle potato fries and a medium drink.

The average retail value of the prize is $250.
