Pleased to meat ya? No, the Food Network's meatless on this MN visit

Publish date:

Guy Fieri's Food Network show is named after the kind of no-frills establishments he and his fans enjoy visiting: Diners, Drive-Ins, Dives, and Butcher Shops. Vegan ones.

Well, OK, we kinda ad libbed that butcher shop part. But that's because the show's latest trip to Minnesota was to get an up-close look at America's first meatless butcher shop, the Herbivorous Butcher in Minneapolis.

Yes, it's a butcher shop where all the meat and cheese is made without using meat or dairy products.

Siblings Kale and Aubry Walch launched their shop a couple years ago with help from a Kickstarter campaign. And it's proven popular enough to get noticed – even by a show that more often munches on burgers and barbecue (the beef and pork kind).

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is a show that knows its way to Minnesota.

Not much veganism was happening during previous visits, though, which featured stops at Bayport Barbecue, Matt's Bar, the Nook, and the Wienery, among other diners, dives and.... y'know.

If you'd like to join the Walches and friends for their viewing party Friday night, they'll be at Cafe du Nord in Minneapolis starting at 8 p.m. with a six foot long party sub (vegan, of course).
