Potential for a 'considerable amount' of precipitation with late-week storm

The National Weather Service is watching the system closely.

What's happening?

A strong storm system is still on track to pulse through Minnesota Friday into Saturday and it could bring with it some considerable precipitation.

Will it be rain or snow?

Both, but the amount of snow specific places get will be determined by when and where the rain changes to snow first.

"This storm has the potential of producing a considerable amount of precipitation," says the NWS forecast discussion from Monday afternoon, adding that "snowfall could be significant if the atmosphere remains cool enough during the strongest part of the system moving across the area over the weekend."

Earlier Monday, MPR meteorologist Paul Huttner said the chances of significant snowfall with this storm seem "highly iffy," and that was in line with views from Paul Douglas' blog and WCCO meteorologist Mike Lynch's Facebook page
