Prince entertains star-studded crowd at late-night NYC concert

Minnesota rocker Prince performed at a surprise show in New York City in the wee hours of Saturday morning, according to US Weekly. The occasion was a 30th anniversary celebration ofMichael Jordan's Nike Jordan brand.

The audience was a star-studded crowd including Jordan, Beyonce, Jay Z, Queen Latifah, Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, Carmelo Anthony and Questlove, among others, the magazine said.

Prince sang and rocked out for more than two hours, and invited several of the celebrities to come onstage to sing and dance, the Associated Press reports.

Outside the club, 23 Wall Street, fans stood at the door trying to get in – some waiting outside in the chilly weather to no avail.

Prince, who switched from guitar to keyboard, and sang and danced, was backed up by his female trio 3RDEYEGIRL.

The energetic performance featured many of Prince's most popular songs including ''1999," ''Little Red Corvette," ''Nothing Compares 2 U," ''Kiss" and "Hot Thing," said the AP.

You might guess what the encore was. Fans yelled "Purple Rain" after he left the stage, then he returned to close out the night with his signature song.

Prince has raised his public profile of late. He appeared at the Grammys last Sunday night to present the award for Best Album. He was also a presenter at the Golden Globe Awards in January, and performed on Saturday Night Live in November.
