Prince expected to announce more London shows

Minneapolis music dynamo Prince has been rocking London all month long, and it appears there may be more shows to come, the Daily Mail reports.

The publication says the Purple One is expected to announce more shows on his impromptu tour of London, which kicked off earlier this month with a 10-person affair in the living room of British soul singer Lianne La Havas.

The Daily Mail says each gig played by Prince and his band 3rdEyeGirl has been different, and has included some small venues and acoustic shows.

Daily Mail critic Adrian Thrills caught the legendary musician at Koko, the same London theater that hosted Madonna's first U.K. concert in 1983. Thrills said the music was "old-school and organic" and "free from electronic samples and synthesizers."

"As he showed when selling out 21 nights at London’s O2 Arena in 2007, Prince remains a performer of remarkable stamina and verve," Thrills wrote. "Sporting a frilly shirt and a new, Afro hairstyle, he led his three-piece group through a mix of old faves and tracks from forthcoming album 'Plectrum Electrum.'"

Star Tribune music critic says Prince's London gigs have attracted several big names, including Grammy and Oscar-winning singer Adele, supermodel Kate Moss, actress Michelle Rodriguez, and British comedian and actor Stephen Fry.

The Daily Mail says Prince is "expected to stay in Britain for the rest of this month, and possibly beyond, there is bound to be more to come."

The paper says two shows are planned in Manchester, and rumors are abound about a slot at the Glastonbury Festival and summer shows in Hyde Park.

Meanwhile, A.V. Club is highlighting the work of a Reddit user who put together a map of the best-selling musician from each state in the country, culled from the Recording Industry Association of America's list of the 250 top-selling musicians nationwide

From Minnesota, it's not Bob Dylan, but Prince.

See the map here. Among the top selling from around the country, Billy Joel rules New York and Bruce Springsteen is tops in New Jersey, while Linda Ronstadt is the champion of New Mexico.
