Music icon Prince announced this afternoon he's hosting a jam session at his Paisley Park studio in Chanhassen tonight.

He posted an invitation on his Twitter feed this afternoon.

In honor of Record Store Weekend, owners of music stores and their employees can get in free. Tickets for others are $30.

Record Store Day took place in independent music stores all over the country Saturday, to support those retailers and the positive impact they have on local communities.

Music stores throughout Minnesota scheduled special events, musical performances and deals to mark the day.

The last time Prince threw an impromptu event at Paisley Park was about a month ago, and like tonight's, it was announced on Twitter. But that was a closed-door session with only invited guests able to attend.

During that event Prince previewed a project by his protege Judith Hill, who performed for the crowd.

As a result of that collaboration, Prince is being sued over allegations that he pursued Hill, despite her exclusive recording contract with Sony.
