Live from New York -- Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL will be musical guests on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 1 with host Chris Rock.
The Minnesota rocker announced the news on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, as did SNL. His appearance comes just a few weeks after Prince released two new albums -- one with 3RDEYEGIRL, “PlectrumElectrum,” and a solo album, “Art Official Age.”
Rock, the host and former SNL cast member has impersonated Prince in the past, including an appearance in the 2013 movie “Grown Ups 2.”
Prince has been a musical guest on SNL twice before: in 1981, performing “Party Up”; and in 2006, performing “Fury” and “Beautiful, Loved and Blessed.” He also appeared in the show's 15th anniversary special in 1989, according to The Current.
SNL has had a recurring sketch called "The Prince Show" in previous seasons, which poked fun at his quiet and quirky personality. He's been impersonated by cast members Fred Armisen, Chris Kattan, and Billy Crystal, in addition to Rock, according to the Star Tribune.
Prince is the latest Minnesota musician to appear on late-night television this year, the Current notes. Trampled By Turtles,Jeremy Messersmith, and Lizzo performed on the David Letterman show, and the Replacements appeared on The Tonight Show as part of their comeback tour.
