"I only want to see you, laughing in the orange rain."
Doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?
But in news that will shock Minnesotans to their very cores, Prince actually preferred orange to the purple with which he became synonymous.
The revelation comes from Prince's sister Tyka Nelson, who spoke to the London Evening Standard ahead of the opening of an exhibition in London of some of Prince's memorabilia, borrowed from Paisley Park.
It's when describing Prince's orange Cloud guitar that Tyka Nelson makes the jaw-dropping confession.
“The stand out piece for me is his orange Cloud guitar. It is strange because people always associate the color purple with Prince, but his favorite colour was actually orange," she said.
This is quite the turnaround for someone who built so much of his mystique and brand around the color purple.
Vulture just flat out refuses to believe it, and while citing a few occasions when Prince has worn orange, cited many, many more when he was dressed in his ubiquitous purple.
The exhibition opens in October, with Nelson choosing London as the venue as she says it was Prince's favorite city outside of the U.S. (we assume Minneapolis was first).
The orange Cloud guitar was made (but not used) for Prince's legendary Super Bowl half-time performance, which he also used during his record-breaking 21-night residency at London's O2 Arena in 2007.
