Grammy award winning artist Chaka Khan canceled her July tour dates to voluntarily attend rehab, according to a statement released on Sunday.

"Chaka has struggled with a dependence on prescription pain medications and has voluntarily entered the program to get healthy and stay that way," it says. Additionally, doctors have advised Khan to postpone her recording sessions until later this month and her tour until August.

"Unfortunately, I will miss concert appearances over the summer," she said, according to USA Today. "However, it's vital that I put my health and well-being first. I know that I am disappointing some of my fans, but I also know they would want me to recover and be well and healthy."

Khan says she has been battling an addiction to fentanyl, the opioid pain killer that caused Prince to overdose. His death has spurred her decision to seek treatment, reported E! News.

The 63 year-old and Prince were good friends, according to the outlet.

Khan's younger sister, Yvonne Stevens, will be joining her in rehab. Stevens – also known as Taka Boom – is an R&B singer as well.

"The tragic death of Prince has had us both rethinking and reevaluating our lives and priorities," said Khan, according to Entertainment Weekly. "We knew it was time to take action to save our lives. My sister and I would like to thank everyone for their support, love, and prayers.”

Khan has struggled with drug and alcohol additions in the past, attending rehab several times, according to US Weekly.

Her song "I Feel For you" – originally written and recorded by Prince – earned him a 1985 Grammy award for Best R&B Song, after Khan's version topped charts.

She signed with Prince's label – NPG Records – in 1998. They toured together in late '90s. This is what she tweeted after his death:
