Professional chalk artists will take over Maple Grove's Main Street this weekend

Stop by and take pictures, because it'll all be washed away Sunday night.

The pavement in Maple Grove will become dozens of artists' canvas this weekend.

It's for the second-annual Chalkfest, which is co-founded by local street-painting artist Shawn McCann.

The free, two-day street art festival features professional chalk artists from across the globe. Amateurs and beginners are welcome to create and learn alongside the pros, too. You can actually sign up for lessons here.

And if you're not an artist, that's OK. You can stop by Main Street between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. this weekend to watch the artists do their thing and get some awesome pictures. As you can see in the photo above, some of the art is meant to look 3-D – which could make for some super 'gram-worthy pics.

While the event is mostly just for fun, it's also a competition. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite professional piece when they visit. The artist with the most votes gets a People's Choice Award.

But once the voting is completed and the award is handed out – it's all over. Crews will take out the pressure washers and the street will go back to normal.

The event's website says some artists, like McCann, will be working on pieces ahead of the festival. You can check those out at the Arbor Lakes Fountains at the end of the work week.

McCann told the Star Tribune there really wasn't a major street art festival in the Upper Midwest until Chalkfest started last year.

Then, it featured 20 professional artists. Now there will be more than 30.
