Raphael Saadiq replaces ailing Sharon Jones in Basilica Block Party lineup

R&B star Raphael Saadiq has been named as the replacement for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings as a headliner for the second night of the Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis July 13, the Pioneer Press reports.

Jones dropped out of the lineup earlier this month after revealing her bile duct cancer diagnosis. The singer says the cancer was caught in the first stage and the prognosis is good, but she needs time to rest and recover.

Saadiq will be a headliner on the Church Stage. The 47-year-old singer was a member of the 1980s soul trio Tony! Toni! Tone! but his work with D'Angelo helped launch his successful solo career.

The Basilica Block Party will be headlined by Grace Potter and Matt Nathanson on the opening night of the Basilica Block Party on July 12.

Saadiq is joining Matchbox Twenty, the Goo Goo Dolls for the second night of the festival.
