Ready, set, tweet: Fargo wants to run with Will Ferrell, starts Twitter campaign

Runners, take your mark and tweet to Will Ferrell!

Fargo Marathon organizers want to see funnyman Will Ferrell at the starting line on Saturday, May 9, and they've launched a Twitter campaign to get his attention.

Using #FerrellRunFargo, organizers are asking people to tweet Ferrell reasons why he should make the trip to Fargo.

Why Ferrell? Well, not only is he hilarious, but he's a three-time marathon finisher – he ran New York City in 2001, Stockholm in 2002 and the Boston Marathon in 2003, noted. He also finished a half marathon in Los Angeles in 2012.

Plus, he's no stranger to North Dakota.

To promote his "Anchorman 2" film, he anchored the Bismarck news in character as anchorman Ron Burgundy in 2013.

Sue Knutson, an event coordinator, told The Forum if Ferrell comes to Fargo, she would "probably scream, because ... it would be so exciting for him to be here. But it would just be wonderful. It would be great to have him at the event. He's a marathoner. He's an athlete."

She says they're luring Ferrell with promises of free admission, which would cover his guests too.

The only catch is Ferrell doesn't have an official Twitter account.

Here are some of the tweets so far:
