Update: The missing pet boa constrictor has been found

Rocky went missing a week ago.

Rocky, the boa constrictor who'd been missing for more than a week, has been found.

Mille Lacs County Animal Control says the 5-foot snake was found Sunday on Rocky's neighbor's steps.

The agency reported Rocky missing in Princeton last week, but was worried the snake might not survive the recent chilly weather.

But Rocky's owner Raine Day says "so far so good he looks great," according to an update on animal control's Facebook page.

The story from earlier Sunday is below.

Reward offered for pet boa constrictor on the loose in Minnesota

It's been a week since a giant snake got loose in Minnesota, and the owners are feeling desperate.

Rocky, a 5-foot-long boa constrictor, snuck out somehow and was reported missing on social media in Princeton earlier this week.

The Mille Lacs County Animal Control shared the news in hopes of finding Rocky as soon as possible, because the chilly weather we've had lately could be deadly for the pet snake.

On Sunday, the agency shared an update from one of the snake's owners on Facebook, which pleads for the snake's return.

"It's been a week. I can not find him anywhere," the update from Raine Day says. "I'm hoping maybe someone picked him up and took him home to take care of him until he/she could find the owner."

Day says their mother has had Rocky since he was a baby 12 years ago, and that the family is desperate to find him. The post offers a reward to bring Rocky home.

"I am begging you as one pet owner to another please help me being [sic] Rocky home," the post says. "I am willing to pay a $200 reward for my Rocky, he is more than a pet to me and my mother."

Boa constrictors are typically found in Central and South America, where temperatures don't get nearly as cold as the upper 30s central Minnesota experienced earlier this week.

That's why Mille Lacs County Animal Control said that the cooler temperatures we've been having could mean the snake "may not be doing well or could possibly be deceased."

If anyone has seen Rocky – dead or alive – they're asked to call or text 612-805-3685 because his owner would like closure either way, animal control said.

The agency shared this link, which has tips for finding a lost snake.
