We are gathered here today to give our blessings to one of the greatest creations in fast food history.

We're talking, of course, about Taco Bell's Naked Chicken Chalupa.

Ever since the taco with the fried chicken shell came out in late January, foodies have declared their love for the item.

Because how could you not love the traditional Mexican flavors of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and creamy avocado ranch stuffed a shell made from 4 ounces of marinated, fried chicken – for only $2.99.

Mashable called it "the grossest fast food invention yet."

But alas, the cruel people at Taco Bell are taking away one of the company's best inventions since the Crunchwrap Supreme. Eater says it'll disappear from menus sometime in March.

A representative told the site that the item was always meant to be offered for a limited-time only.

“The Naked Chicken Chalupa was always planned as a limited-time offer and because it has proven to be popular and exceeded expectations, we’re confident it will be returning to the menu in the future,” the spokesperson said.

So it looks like there's hope that we might see a comeback some day.

But we don't get it, Taco Bell. You wanted us to think outside the bun, and we did – and this is how we are rewarded? We had less than two months to enjoy your latest culinary masterpiece.

There are cries to start a petition, as people have done in the past when the fast food chain discontinued the Quesalupa and the Daredevil Ghost Pepper Griller.

But if you can't hold out very long, YouTubers Hellthy Junk Food created a version that you can make at home.
