Running of the bulldogs and other Father's Day ideas

Still on the hunt for something to do with dad this weekend – how does some organized chaos sound?

Canterbury Park is hosting its inaugural "Running of the Bulldogs" for Father's Day this Sunday.

Twenty, four-legged competitors will run a 30-yard track in what event organizers are predicting to be "organized bulldog chaos," FOX 9 says.

Here's a preview of the event:

The "Running of the Bulldogs" will take place between horse races three, five and seven. Horse races begin at 12:45 p.m. It's also Pepsi Family Day at the park – visitors get free pony rides, there's a petting zoo and face painting, according to the park's website.

Bulldogs aren't the only canines racing at Canterbury Park this summer. The park is also hosting a wiener dog warm-up race on July 4. The main event will be held on Labor Day, Sept. 1, KSTP notes.

If animal races aren't your pop's thing, WCCO has a lists of fun activities to do with dad, including biking in Lanesboro, CSI: The Experience at Mall of America, Toys of the '50s, '60s and '70s at the Minnesota History Museum, among other events.

Here's a sampling of some last-minute gift ideas:

– If you're all about DIY, Mashable has 11 do it yourself gift ideas that are "way better than a tie." Among them: monogramed mugs, barbeque rub, beer soap and a root beer float kit.
– Here are some dad-worthy club of the month gifts, including golf ball of the month club, salami of the month club and craft beer club.
– The Minnesota-based blog Pocket Your Dollar has a roundup of best Father's Day gifts for the athlete, movie buff and chef – including some on sale.
– If dad likes gadgets, CNN has a list of the 10 best tech gifts for dad, ranging in price from $20 to just under $200.

Looking to get outside this weekend? Thunderstorms are likely Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, the National Weather Service says. But if you can squeeze it in – the Department of Natural Resources is providing free admission to all 75 Minnesota state parks on Saturday for National Get Outdoors Day.
