Simple act of sportsmanship earns ND runners a trip to 'Ellen'

A simple act of "doing the right thing" has earned a North Dakota cross country runner a trip to California and an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.

Earlier this month, Melanie Bailey of Devils Lake stopped in the middle of a race to carry Danielle LeNoue, an injured runner from South Fargo, piggyback-style a quarter mile to get medical attention.

Bailey told the Devils Lake Journal after the race that "She (LaNoue) was just sobbing, I couldn't leave her. ... I feel like I was just doing the right thing."

But that simple act of sportsmanship was photographed and news of what she did spread around the world.

Bailey told the Devils Lake Journal last week that she's overwhelmed by all the attention, adding she never thought she'd get on the front page of the Devils Lake Journal, let alone have the story featured by national and international media outlets.

She also told the newspaper she was flying to Los Angeles, California, to appear on a popular talk show, but wasn't able to say which one.

WDAY reports Bailey and LaNoue flew to California Monday to record their appearance on "Ellen."

The episode is expected to Wednesday, InForum says, however there aren't any details about the ladies' appearance on the "Ellen" website.

Earlier this month, Bailey was featured on the show's Facebook page and many viewers commented that they should make an appearance on the show.
