St. Cloud is having its first gaming convention this weekend

A "geek" convention is coming to St. Cloud this weekend.

St. Cloud-based LionHeart Games, LLC is putting on the event, which will be held Saturday at the Rivers Edge Convention Center.

LionCon is being dubbed central Minnesota's premier "geek convention" that's geared toward "bringing the gaming and counter cultures together right in our backyard." And the St. Cloud Times says LionCon its the city's first gaming convention.

There will be a lot of different things for gamers to enjoy, including game displays and demos, comic book and graphic novel displays, as well as dozens of vendorsaccording to the EventBrite page.

Among the special events at the convention: a Pokemon Go lure fest, a $1,000 Magic: The Gathering tournament, Dragon Ball Z Constructed, Free Legends of Chaos Tournament, Dungeons and Dragons Adventure League, all-day open gaming, a 21-plus after party at the Red Carpet Night Club, and a cosplay contest.

Justin Willard, the owner of LionHeart Games and the organizer of the convention, told the St. Cloud Times he's most excited to see the costumes everyone comes up with for the cosplay contest.

Willard hopes 750 or more people attend the event, the paper says, and he already has plans to do it again next year to attract even bigger vendors.
