The luck of the Irish will be with St. Paul a day early this year, the Pioneer Press reports.

The city is preparing to host its annual celebration of St. Patrick's Day on Saturday, a day ahead of the official holiday.

The centerpiece of the celebration will be the city's 47th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, which starts at noon Saturday on Broadway in Lowertown, and travels west on Fifth Street to Rice Park, where the march will wrap up.

Several venues are hosting St. Patrick's Day festivities in the city -- and on West Seventh Street, two blocks spanning the Liffey Irish Pub, Patrick McGovern's Pub and five other saloons near Xcel Energy Center will be closed to vehicles from 2- 10 p.m. for a green block party, the Pioneer Press reports.

Miller Lite is teaming with MetroTransit to offer free rides in the evening after 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the City of Minneapolis will be hosting its own St. Patrick's Day parade, which starts at 6:30 p.m. on Nicollet Mall.
