St. Paul Saints giving away a chunk of cash if a 16 beats a 1 in the NCAA Tournament
If something called the University of Maryland, Baltimore County can upset No. 1 seed Virginia in the NCAA Tournament, one lucky fan is going to win a nice chunk of cash from the St. Paul Saints.
How much?
The Saints say their general manager, Derek Sharrer, is giving away $10,000 if any of the 16 seeds knock off a 1-seed in the tournament.
But you have to retweet this tweet in order to qualify.
A 16-seed has never defeated a 1-seed, so Sharrer's chances of losing some money are extremely slim. Nonetheless, here are the 16 seeds and their opponents.
- #16 UMBC vs. #1 Virginia
- #16 Long Island Brooklyn or Radford vs. #1 Villanova
- #16 North Carolina Central or Texas Southern vs. #1 Xavier
- #16 Penn vs. #1 Kansas
UMBC played Arizona early in the season and lost by 25, but they did just beat Vermont in the American East championship game, and Vermont is solid having taken Kentucky to the wire in their season opener.
Long Island Brooklyn and North Carolina Central haven't faced a high caliber team all season whereas Radford at least hung with Ohio State and Vanderbilt.
Texas Southern played quite a few good teams this season, including ranked teams Gonzaga, Kansas, Baylor and TCU. But they lost all four by a combined 121 points.
Penn played Villanova and lost by 28.
