It's Force Friday, the day Disney and Lucasfilm dump a mountain of new merchandise in celebration of the next Star Wars film.

Naturally, Minnesota's two retail giants are getting a piece of the action, with a wide range of in-store demos and exclusive deals aimed right at the fans – and their wallets.

So if you're interested in swinging a lightsaber and linking your smartphone to a galaxy far, far away, here's what's going on at Target and Best Buy this weekend.

Target

The Bullseye made a Black Friday-style event out of it, opening some 500 stores to anxious Star Wars fans at midnight on Friday morning.

It was a chance for the retailer to "unveil hundreds of new products, including several items available only at Target," according to a release.

One item you can only find at Target is this action figure six-pack from Hasbro (you can check out a gallery of the other exclusive products right here):

Target is also participating in a new augmented reality "treasure hunt" game called Find the Force, which is sort of like Pokémon Go, but with a Star Wars theme.

Users who download the app can walk around Target and scan specially marked items (like cardboard standees of their favorite characters), and then watch cool stuff pop up on their phones.

This video explains how it works:

The festivities will run through the weekend, so expect a lot of Darth Vader and R2-D2 if you make a Target run.

Best Buy

Okay, about those lightsabers we mentioned.

Best Buy says it is the only big-box retailer where you can pre-order the upcoming Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, a virtual reality game where you get to duel with bad guys like Kylo Ren and Darth Maul in your living room.

We'd explain it further, but honestly this trailer does a much better job than we ever could:

In addition to letting customers pre-order this awesome-looking game (for $199.99), Best Buy is also letting customers try out new Star Wars Sphero droids, "including characters R2-D2, BB-8 and the latest BB-9E."

You can find which locations have the droid demos right here.

Best Buy, like Target, is also taking part in Find the Force and selling its own exclusive Star Wars items.

Star Wars hype

As mentioned above, all this is aimed not only at profits, but also at building up excitement for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters this December.

Officially, this is actually Force Friday II; the first happened in 2015, a few months before the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens
