Sun Country has announced an early Christmas gift for Minnesotans: It will start a seasonal Hawaii route from MSP next year.

The route between MSP and Honolulu, O'ahu, will run four times a week, Friday through Monday, between May 19 and August 19.

However, it won't be direct, requiring a "short stop" in Los Angeles before continuing on to the islands.

It will compete with Delta, which currently runs direct flights between MSP and Honolulu.

Sun Country also announced seasonal routes to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which will run twice a week – Monday and Friday – from Apr. 6 through June 4.

The coastal area is a mecca for golfers and beach-goers.
