Food service is returning to the second floor of Surly's destination brewery in northeast Minneapolis later this month.
The brewery has announced that Surly Pizza Upstairs will officially open to the public on March 30.
It's replacing Surly's acclaimed fine dining restaurant, the Surly Brewer's Table, which paired high cuisine with a selection of beers from its on-site brewery.
But the Brewer's Table served its last meal in August, with management deciding to opt for more snack-friendly fare, noting "pizza and beer are a slam-dunk pairing."
That's not to say diners can't expect top-quality pies. Executive chef Ben Peine has created a host of pizzas "influenced by New Haven-style apizzas," according to the Surly website.
"Think of this style as 'dirty Neapolitan' with thin, charred crust and fresh ingredients," Surly spokeswoman Tiffany Jackson told us in September.
The pizza joint will compliment the selection of apps, sharing plates, smoked meats and sandwiches Surly currently offers in its beerhall.
More details of opening events are expected to be released in the next few weeks, with the space still currently under construction.
