Take a look at the bold, colorful 2017 Minnesota State Fair art

He promised to show the "harmony and chaos" of the State Fair at the same time.

Ta-coumba Aiken promised his Minnesota State Fair art would "show the fair’s harmony and chaos at the same time." And now we've got a look at what he meant.

The fair revealed Aiken's 2017 commemorative art late Thursday. Take a look:

The commemorative poster, some signed prints and other merch with the piece featured are available to buy. Proceeds go to the Minnesota State Fair Foundation.

The inspiration for the piece

Aiken, who lives in St. Paul, said he went to the fair 12 times over nine day "and found myself concentrating on the enormous amount of energy and positive spirit I felt all over the fairgrounds.”

"I observed people of every race, culture, gender, physical and mental challenge, and they were all exploring," he said. "Just like the fair, my piece has your eyes moving from one place to another until they settle in on something familiar. I had hoped to embrace this magical place in a whimsical way, and I believe I accomplished just that."

Aiken is known for his "rhythm paintings." They’re very colorful and often made up of various patterns. You can see some of his work here.

He also serves on the board of the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, and is an arts administrator and educator, with a focus on public art and collaborative projects. He’s helped craft more than 600 murals and public art sculptures. Like the Gillette Children’s Hospital mural, and the art outside the Robert Street Municipal Parking Ramp.
