Taste of Minnesota will go on in Carver County

Organizers of the Taste of Minnesota have announced a new venue for their July 4 weekend event. It'll be held at the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia, which is about 45 miles west of the original location in downtown St. Paul.

The festival was supposed to take place on Harriet Island in St. Paul from July 3-6, but that park is flooded due to high water on the Mississippi River and the organizers have been scrambling to find a new place to hold the event.

Taste of Minnesota organizer Linda Maddox said earlier this week that she checked out many venues in the area, including soccer and baseball fields, as possible locations.

The news was announced Wednesday afternoon on the Taste of Minnesota website, which also included this message:

"Thank you for your patience as we worked to find a new location for this year’s festival. We also appreciate the many venues that came forward as possible locations after flood waters reached our Harriet Island home."

A Taste of Minnesota will be held July 3-6 and will feature food items from 24 food and beverage vendors, and performances from 29 musical acts. Headliners include Soul Asylum, Starship, Halestorm and Joe Nichols.

Fireworks displays will take place each night beginning at 10:20 p.m.

The Taste of Minnesota was a Fourth of July weekend tradition for many years, but the festival has not been staged since 2010 after its owners declared bankruptcy. The event is back after a three-year absence, and is being run by Linda Maddox, the widow of the event's founder Ron Maddox.

Unlike the last year of the festival in 2010, where admission prices of $20-$30 were charged, the celebration will be free to attend until 3 p.m. each day. Afterward it will cost $10, which includes $5 in food and beverage tickets. Children under the age of 12 get in free all day.
