The surprise performer at Target Field is bringing a piano

The big reveal featured Twins manager Paul Molitor and first baseman Joe Mauer.

The big concert announcement Target Field teased earlier this week is... Billy Joel.

The piano man himself will bring his tour to Minneapolis on July 28. Tickets for the show will go on sale Friday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m.

This will be Joel's first outdoor concert in Minnesota, Twins manager Paul Molitor said at a news conference Thursday morning. First baseman Joe Mauer and Twins president Dave St. Peter were on hand to make the big announcement, too.

The last time Joel was in Minnesota was in May 2015 – the Target Center show was also announced during a morning news conference, too, the Star Tribune said.

The 67-year-old, who is a huge baseball fan, joins just a handful of other major musical gigs to play Target Field, and he'll be only the second non-country act to play a major show at the ballpark. The venue has previously hosted Kenny Chesney (he's played there four times), Zac Brown Band, Tim McGraw, and Paul McCartney – they all played before crowds of more than 40,000.

Joel, who is currently in residency at Madison Square Garden in New York, announced earlier this month he'd be touring stadiums across the country this summer. He paid a visit to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show Monday night to talk about the tour – and to rank his favorite Billy Joel songs, telling Colbert he tends to "like the album tracks, not the ones that are hit singles."

And this may not be the only concert announcement for Target Field this year. Twins President Dave St. Peter tweeted when asked about other shows, saying it's TBD, but "hopeful."
