Minnesota-based General Mills is saying cherrio to 2017 by breaking out a new variety of its best-known cereal. That's in addition to the 13 kinds of Cheerios they already make. (Although we're not sure if Pumpkin Spice should count because it's only around in the fall.)

Cereal eaters will soon be able to indulge in a bowl of Very Berry Cheerios, one of more than 20 new products General Mills introduced on its blog Tuesday.

While they've got the taste of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, they don't look like they would glow in the dark. General Mills says it's not using any artificial colors or flavors in Very Berry Cheerios. No corn syrup, either. Or gluten.

The company's roster of new products includes some other items you might put in the stuff-that's-good-for-you category. Especially the new food bars that contain a quarter cup of either kale or spinach.

For some reason, we were relieved to see there's also a Mint Chip Brownie flavor of the LÄRABAR.

Items for the Chinese market

General Mills says nearly every American household (97 percent) will purchase at least one of the company's products this year.

That shows how well-entrenched they are in the U.S., which means their biggest growth opportunities are overseas.

That's why they're releasing Wanchai Ferry Kids in time for the Chinese new year. The kid-sized dumplings will come in colorful wrappers but will be filled with nutritious pork, salmon, or shrimp to make China's parents happy, General Mills says.

Another new product designed specifically for the Chinese market is made by Häagen-Dazs, one of the many labels in the General Mills stable.

For 2017 they're launching a "Fruit & Flowers" line of ice cream. One of its inaugural varieties is rose, raspberry & lychee, while the other is elderflower & blackcurrant.

Those of us in the U.S. won't see those flavors, at least not now. But some of the other stateside innovations General Mills has in store for 2017 include the revival of Yoplait custard yogurt (after a 10 year absence), Nature Valley granola cups, and Super Hero Girls fruit flavored snacks (hello, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl).
