This week in music: B.B. King brings the blues to Minnesota


Legendary bluesman B.B. King is coming in concert this week to the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake.

King, 88, has shown critics in recent shows that you're never too old to jam.

MLive critic John Serba said King's band did the heavy lifting at a show in Grand Rapids, Mich., in June, while the guitarist "picked up the melody lines or soloed to his content."

"He can still push air through an amplifier, and rattle a speaker cone with one muted strike of the strings on his famous Gibson, Lucille," Serba writes. "He may not play a lot of notes, but they absolutely are meaningful."

King also played Ohio in June, and CleveScene critic William Hoffman wrote that "the King of the Blues held onto his title" at his concert in Akron.

Also coming in concert this week:

Comedy star Whitney Cummings is coming to the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis Friday.

In addition to participating in Comedy Central roasts, Cummings starred in NBC's "Whitney" last year and is the co-creator of the hit CBS sitcom "Two Broke Girls."
