This week in music: Nine Inch Nails kicks off tour in St. Paul

Nine Inch Nails kicks off their long-awaited "Tension 2013" concert tour Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

The group, fronted by Trent Reznor, played a warm-up gig at the iconic 400-seat Troubadour night club in Los Angeles Sept. 3, the same day its 8th album "Hesitation Marks" was released.

The Hollywood Reporter says the two-hour concert wasn't so much about the songs Nine Inch Nails played, but the electricity created in a venue much smaller than the arenas booked for the tour.

"Certainly it was not a perfect show (although several audience members remarked on how the musicians never missed a single note), but it was iconic for reasons beyond the initial novelty of Nine Inch Nails headlining The Troubadour," wrote THR music critic Emily Zemler.

Also coming in concert this week:

Those looking for a mellower vibe will be able get it with legendary crooner Engelbert Humperdinck, who is set to play Mystic Lake Hotel and Casino Friday.
