Nine Inch Nails kicks off their long-awaited "Tension 2013" concert tour Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
The group, fronted by Trent Reznor, played a warm-up gig at the iconic 400-seat Troubadour night club in Los Angeles Sept. 3, the same day its 8th album "Hesitation Marks" was released.
The Hollywood Reporter says the two-hour concert wasn't so much about the songs Nine Inch Nails played, but the electricity created in a venue much smaller than the arenas booked for the tour.
"Certainly it was not a perfect show (although several audience members remarked on how the musicians never missed a single note), but it was iconic for reasons beyond the initial novelty of Nine Inch Nails headlining The Troubadour," wrote THR music critic Emily Zemler.
