At the end of the dim hallway there's a door that leads into the taproom. Lining the walls are 10 huge cypress tanks that Schell's commissioned in 1936. It was right after Prohibition ended, so Schell's was broke. That's likely why the brewery chose wooden tanks – they were cheaper than the modern steel ones, Marti explained. The tanks were used until 1991. Eight of them were put into storage with the idea they'd never be used again. The two others stayed in the brewery just in case they needed emergency tanks (they never did).
