Prince was roundly praised for a performance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Friday night, in which he introduced his new all-female band 3rd Eye Girl.
But the Minnesota musician is also taking some flak for borrowing a vintage 1961 Epiphone Crestwood Custom guitar from "Captain" Kirk Douglas, of the Fallon house band The Roots, and then wrecking it.
Prince at the end of performing the song "Bambi" takes the guitar off and chucks it, and the instrument lands hard. Douglas tweeted a photo of the damaged instrument and called it "Purple Pain:"
Roots rapper Black Thought tweeted that Prince also refused to autograph the instrument.
The Roots on their Facebook page had a rock-and-roll attitude about it. "We're pretty sure Kirk loved that guitar. We're pretty sure its okay though, because that's Prince."
