Twitter's CEO asked his followers for their input on what Twitter's 2017 New Year's resolutions should be. As you can imagine, that opened up the door to thousands of recommendations.

So what are the most important things people want from Twitter in 2017?

To edit tweets

CEO Jack Dorsey says people really want to be able to edit their tweets after they send them.

Currently, if you tweet then notice you have a spelling error or something, you have to delete the whole tweet and send out a new one. It's not a huge pain, but it can suck if you've already gotten some likes and retweets.

Here's Dorsey's response in less than 140 characters: "clearest ask was to provide a quick way to fix errors. Anything beyond requires showing edit history given tweets are public record."

While that doesn't answer a whole lot, Dorsey did reply to a tweet saying, "a form of edit is def needed. But for everyone, not just those w badges."

To fight online abuse

People are also concerned about online abuse that happens on Twitter.

Some of the top recommendations are to have ways to fight online harassment and keep internet trolls from creating new accounts.

Here's how Dorsey responded to that request: "obviously a ton of work ahead but biggest ask was for greater transparency around our actions (or inaction) and faster shipping."

According to a Buzzfeed survey from earlier this year, 90 percent of people say Twitter didn't do anything after they reported abuse.

Topics and conversations

The last two things Dorsey said Twitter would consider are for people to better follow topics and to manage conversations.

So for topics, people want to be able to more easily find tweets about particular interests or things that are happening.

Here's what Dorsey said about topics: "lots here but simply being able to follow topics was strongest request. Being more topic/interest-focused (v account) opens up a lot."

As for simply having conversations with people, Dorsey admits it's difficult to follow right now: "this is a big part of the magic of Twitter and currently really difficult to follow & manage. We'll work to make this easier."

The CEO also promised Twitter would be "more open."
