Valleyfair is saying goodbye to one of its oldest rides

So long, Enterprise.

Valleyfair is getting rid of one of its oldest rides to make room for something new, a news release says.

The Enterprise, which has been at the Shakopee theme park for 38 years, will have its last "go-around" on Aug. 21, before it's ceremoniously retired at 10 p.m.

Valleyfair says 15 and a half million riders have gone on the Enterprise since it was installed in 1979, with the Dave Frazier, vice president and general manager of Valleyfair, calling its departure from the park "bittersweet."

“The park has evolved so much over the past 40 years and as Valleyfair continues to grow, we’re committed to enhancing the overall experience for our guests. We’re happy that Enterprise was able to provide close to four decades of memories," Frazier adds.

Valleyfair hasn't said what will replace the Enterprise, but it did say the park was preparing to "soar to new heights" next year.

Plans for the park's growth will be announced in mid-August, the release says.
