Following the death of 80-year-old Mary Tyler Moore, Minnesotans have been stopping by her statue in downtown Minneapolis to pay tribute.

People have been leaving flowers at the base of the statue and posing for pictures.

GoMN spoke with some visitors who grew up watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She played a news producer in Minneapolis.

For several fans, she's among the first strong female characters they remember seeing on TV.

Lt. Gov. Tina Smith even said in a statement that the late actress had been one of her role models.

The statue can be found at 505 Nicollet Mall in the visitor center.
