Video: In just 1 hour, dozens of couples said 'I do'
Valentine's Day is the biggest wedding day of the year at the Hennepin County Government Center.
In fact, the center actually puts on a whole event and offers free weddings to dozens of couples. All they have to do is sign up.
Nancy Peters, a communications specialist for Hennepin County District Court, told GoMN there were 34 weddings performed in one hour Tuesday afternoon.
"This is way more than usual," Peters explained, saying on a typical day, the government center might only see a handful of weddings.
This wasn't a mass ceremony either. Each couple had their own wedding ceremony with their own judge.
And there's no dress code.
Some people wore classic white gowns and tuxes. Others wore short colorful dresses, plaid shirts, or even blue jeans.
This was the fifth year the government center has done this.
Valentine's Day isn't just a popular time for weddings. A 2013 American Express report said about six million couples get engaged on Feb. 14.
