We're getting our first look at what the Light Walk on Nicollet Mall will be.
The Light Walk is part of the redesign of Nicollet Mall that will make it more pedestrian-friendly. It will feature a two-block-long overhead light installation that's made out of a series of mirrored fins and programmable LED lights, according to the project website.
The walk will be outside the IDS Center (between 6th and 8th streets), and is across Nicollet Mall from the Art Walk (another feature of the redesign).
The Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District posted a short video to Facebook of crews testing the new Light Walk. Here's video from this week's test:
Take a sneak peek at part of Nicollet's new Light Walk that was tested yesterday. The Light Walk will have light paneling and reflection that will accompany the Art Walk across the street. This section is located outside IDS Center. #DowntownMpls #2025Plan

The Nicollet Mall redesign also includes that Art Walk mentioned above, as well as additional trees and green spaces, enhanced sidewalk spaces and improved lighting for the 1-mile stretch between Grant Street and Washington Avenue.
Construction began in 2015 and is expected to be completed in summer 2018. For the latest on the project, click here.
