That giant glowing ball that flew through the sky was a meteor.

The meteor was spotted over Wisconsin and Illinois just before 1:30 a.m. Monday, the American Meteor Society says, but people in Minnesota and other surrounding states also caught a glimpse of the green fireball (a fireball is a term for a really bright meteor).

A Morton Grove, Illinois, police officer captured the meteor on dash cam video:

The organization has gotten more than 185 reports of people seeing the meteor, with officials estimating the meteor traveled from southwest to northeast, ending it's flight near Lake Michigan.
