It was really good, and perfect for the season.

The latest beer in Summit's Unchained Series is here, and it's pretty delicious.

Every few months the St. Paul brewery lets one of its brewers get creative and brew whatever beer they want.

This time around its Unchained 26: Westie 7th, a beer by brewer Nick Hempfer that gives a nod to Summit's neighborhood.

It's a Belgian-style dark ale that's made with Belgian candi syrup, which gives the beer a dark flavor and a little more alcohol (it's 7.5 percent). Summit describes the beer as having notes of dark fruit, dark caramel and rum.

The brewery sent us a sample of the new beer, so we obviously tried it (check out our video review above). Producers Melissa Turtinen and Josette Elieff both thought the beer was light on the tongue and good for the season, giving it a 4 out of 5 on our beer rating scale

Westie 7th will be available in Summit's beer hall starting Thursday, and you'll also be able to find the limited-release brew in six-packs of 12-ounce cans this month.
